Attention judges: I am fully aware that someone else has used Gemma Arterton as her model, which was not the case when I started my set, but hey first come first serve :) Should I be accepted, I would be more than willing to change my model, but for this set I honestly just couldn't make any other heads work. Apologies!
AUDITION FORM
★Name★ Sarah Tate
★Age★ 24
★Hometown★ Truro, NS (Canadaaaaa)
★Education★ MA, Classical History
★What's your everyday style?★
My everyday style is based on the fact that I am a.) a poor grad student, b.) am awkwardly shaped, and c.) a poor grad student. This all boils down to the fact that my wardrobe reflects my empty wallet and the lack of actual places to buy clothes that are not meant for teenagers in my town. However, my everyday style is mostly a shirtandjeans + cardigan/blazer + flats/Chucks = Sarah. This, however, does not reflect in my design choices.
★Type of clothing you design?★
A lot of my designs tend to take inspiration from either historical fashion styles or fantasy and sci-fi (and by sci-fi I really just mean steampunk). I tend to make slightly more costume-y pieces rather than things that might be more ready-to-wear, but I’m more interested in the fantastical element of fashion, the kind you see in films and in photo stories. This probably comes from the fact that I’m from a small(minded) town in Eastern Canada, wherein everyone thinks the height of fashion is still plaid shirts and jackets (here we call those tacky quilted plaid jackets ‘Cape Breton dinner jackets’) and tights with dresses and/or as pants. So I guess you can see where my desire for fantasy comes from.
I'm also pretty big on details.
★If you could describe your design style in one word, what would it be?★
★What colors do you use and wear the most?★
I wear a lot (A LOT) of dark colours: black, charcoal, purple, navy blues, etc. Only recently I’ve started wearing bright greens (in small amounts) and burgundies (or oxblood, whatever people want to call it). In my designs, I tend to use a lot of blacks and blues, but I like to mix things up with neutrals and some bright colours. However, the colours I use largely depends on what I’m designing. Right now, I’m kind of into black and gold.
★Favorite designer?★
McQueen (pre-Sarah Burton), Miuccia Prada (both Miu Miu and Prada), Dolce & Gabbana, Dean and Dan Catan (DSquared), Gaultier, Guillaume Henry (Carven), the Rodarte ladies, Dior, and Christian Lacroix. I also have a lot of favourite costume designers, including Michele Clapton (The Devil’s Whore, Game of Thrones), Alexandra Byrne (Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Eiko Ishioka (Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Fall), and Jacqueline Durran (Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina).
★Article of clothing you cannot live without?★
★What makes you different from the other designers?★
★Which celebrities do you think have the best style?★
Cate Blanchett, Gemma Arterton, and Lily Collins.
★If you could style anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why?★
★What is the thought process behind your designs?★
★What type of themed challenge would you like to see?★
★If you won the million dollar prize, what would you do with the money?★
★Portfolio★ (link to collection here)
★Model★ (Not Gemma Arterton)
